Behold the most beautiful women of 2015
Miss Spain Mireia Lalaguna Royo has been named the Miss World 2015, besting 113 contestants from around the world, during the 65th edition of the pageant held in Sanya, China.
The 23-year old hails from Barcelona, and is currently a fifth year Pharmacy student at the University of Barcelona.
Mireia said her parents are her pillars of support.The 5 ft 10 beauty is also a skilled pianist, and a popular model in Spain with 28k followers on Instagram.
In the final round, she was asked the question – “Why you think you should be the Miss World?”
“I think I should be the next Miss World because I believe in strong women. I also think I have something inside my heart, and I always try to give the best of me. I also believe in ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ and want to continue its legacy and show the world how to love and share and how to give the best of ourselves, and to find happiness in helping each other,” Mireia replied with a smile, masking her nervousness.
First runner-up, Miss Russia Sofia Nikitchuk as well resonated almost similar thought, saying, “I want to reach my inner world and show my life,love and happiness with all people. It’s a huge honour for me if I will have the opportunity to do that with the big Miss World family.”
It was second runner-up,Maria Harfanti, who gave a more elaborate reply.
“I’ve always been truly inspired by ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ because it means having the heart to share and always giving back to the community. Becoming the Miss World will fulfill my dream to reach out to more people in terms of helping. I want to encourage as many people as I can, to share everything that we have with the people around us,” she said.
“We are much more than the looks, we are wonderfully made to not just exist in the world, but to make a difference,” the 23-year-old Management student added with aplomb.
Miss Lebanon Valerie Abou Chacra – who stressed on the importance of modesty, love and serenity, and Miss Jamaica Sanneta Myrie, with Rastafarian roots, also made it to the final five; Myrie emphasised on the importance of charity.
This year’s Miss World pageant drew a lot of attention for political concerns as well, with China being the host nation. Chinese officials didn’t let Miss Canada Anastasia Lin, who is of Chinese origin, from participating in the contest, by denying her a visa. Lin, an actress and activist, has always been critical of human rights violation happening in China.
