Women of Indian Descent in a Mood to Rule the World
Indians are not limited to India, (yes, we all know it, already) and nor are their achievements. To celebrate International Women’s Day, we have brought you a list of girls who are rocking it beyond boundaries - and they all have Indian genes.
1. Superwoman Lilly Singh- If you are clueless of Superwoman, you better climb down that treehouse in the middle of nowhere.
Forbes ranks her as the 8th highest paid YouTuber across the globe. Lilly Singh, a.k.a Superwoman is an Indo Canadian Vlogger or YouTuber. But she was not always the eloquent woman.
2. Sunita William – This American astronaut of Indian-Slovenian descent holds the record for her seven spacewalks along with the credit of 50 hours 40 minutes of spacewalk under her belt, the most for any woman till date.
The medals this astronaut has proudly taken home include Navy.
3. Nina Davuluri – Nina was not only the first Miss America of Indian descent, but also the first Miss America exposed to racist and xenophobic hate. While few ignorant dwellers of the world walked the extra mile and labeled her as a ** extremist some also identified her as a terrorist.
Having fought the prejudiced minds of the conventional Americans staunchly, the 27 year old, has now surfaced as a successful American Public speaker and advocate.
4. Indra Nooyi – The corporate world couldn’t resist the enormous potential in a woman of Indian descent either. Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi a naturalized American, occupies the chair of a company as
giant as PepsiCo and runs it with indisputable expertise. Running one of the largest business.
5. Jhumpa Lahiri – Indian women have registered achievements in all fields of attainment. The Indian American author, Jhumpa Lahiri, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her debut
compilation “Interpreter of Maladies”. With stories displaying characters rooted in India.
6. Freida Pinto – The 31 year old actress from Mumbai is unquestionably one applauded Indian actress in Hollywood. She was
awarded Palm Springs International Film Festival and Screen Actors Guild Award for her breakthrough performance in the 2008 movie Slumdog Millionaire.
7. Norah Jones – Born into musical legacy as Geetali Norah Jones Shankar, the estranged daughter of late musical maestro Ravi
Shankar has already taken nine Grammys home. A perfect yet rare fusion of country and jazz, her artistry is not only commercially popular but also highly acclaimed by the critics.
