This marvellous image of the Milky Way offers a completely new view of our galaxy



For the first time a telescope has captured a stunning image of the southernmost part of the Milky Way beyond the space dust. Scientists say this will pave the way for the future explorations of the Galaxy we live in.

A new survey of the Milky Way released by European Southern Observatory (ESO) yesterday captures a whole new perspective of our galaxy.

The new map covers most regions of star formation in the southern Milky Way and offers an 'unprecedented look at the distribution of cold, dense gas from which stars are born.'

The stunning pictures were also released to mark the completion of the APEX Telescope Large Area Survey of the Galaxy (ATLASGAL).
