Vodafone 4G services starts in Delhi-NCR
Vodafone 4G services in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) will begin rolling out from today. The 4G service will start with Gurgaon's prominent business and residential corridors.
Vodafone is offering free upgrade to 4G for existing consumers, along with a free 4G-SIM, and three months of access to free TV, Movies and Music on Vodafone Play as part of the 4G subscription.
The cost of Vodafone 4G data packs starts at Rs 11 for 35 MB going up all the way to a 20 GB data pack for Rs 2499. Vodafone has also launched its 4G mobile Wi-Fi, which supports connectivity for up to 10 devices.
“We are delighted to launch our high-speed 4G services in Delhi and NCR for our customers to experience the most advanced wireless broadband experience available across the globe today. 4G has the potential to revolutionize the mobile experience through powerful innovation that impacts how we work and live," said Naveen Chopra, Chief Operating Officer, Vodafone India at the launch.
"Vodafone’s global expertise and experience of launching 4G across 19 countries gives us a better understanding of this technology and the needs of the 4G customer. Initial response from customers who have experienced our 4G services in Kerala, Karnataka, and Kolkata has been positive and encouraging,” he added.
Vodafone is promising immediate 4G SIM exchange at multiple touch points for customers, with same day door-step delivery of postpaid 4G SIMs for requests received before 4:00 pm on the day. 4G customers can also use 4G international roaming in UK, Romania, Spain and Netherlands.
Vodafone's 4G network is built on the 1800 MHz band with extensive fibre backhaul, says the company. It is promising speeds from 10 Mbps up to 30 Mbps on its 4G network.
The telecom operator said that it will increase the intensity of its 4G rollout to cover important metros – Mumbai and Bengaluru shortly, and has started testing in these locations already.
So how can you get a Vodafone 4G SIM?
For starters, users need to check if their smartphone is compatible with the network. They can do so by sending an SMS with the phrase 4GCHECK to 199. Users can also check if their smartphone is compatible with 4G on Vodafone website.
Once it is confirmed that your smartphone supports the 4G network, you can place a request for a 4G SIM by calling the call centre or sending an SMS 4GSIM to 199. Vodafone is promising same day-door delivery for requests placed before 4pm for post-paid users.
Do note that you can use 4G on roaming only if you are in a Vodafone 4G circle, going to another Vodafone 4G circle, and have selected Vodafone network in a 4G zone/area.
So how to activate the Vodafone 4G SIM?
Customers can use their current SIM to activate the 4G SIM. They need to send an SMS SIMEX to 55199. When prompted they need to SMS last 6 digits of the SIM to 55199. If 6 digits entered, match the first string of 19 digits, the new SIM will be activated in 20 minutes.
After the successful SIMEX, users need to turn on Mobile Data and then enter www in Access Point Name, in the Network settings of their smartphone.
In the Network mode, they need to select LTE/4G. Then check for coverage by looking for 'LTE' or '4G' on the signal.
Restart your phone and the 4G should work. In case of complaints customers can call 199 or 198 for any issues.
