Royal Enfield unveils its new bike Himalayan
New Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) Motorcycle major Royal Enfield on Tuesday unveiled its new bike Himalayan.
"With its purpose-built ground-up design, the Himalayan is a simple and capable go-anywhere motorcycle that will redefine adventure touring in India," said Siddhartha Lal, managing director and chief executive of Eicher Motors, in a statement.
According to the company, the bike is built on a rugged duplex split cradle frame designed and developed by Harris Performance.
"A strong mono-shock rear-suspension with linkage allows for longer travel and delivers a smoother ride experience regardless of terrain," the statement said.
"The Himalayan's 220 mm ground clearance ensures it gobbles up obstacles comfortably be it in the Himalayas, rocky river beds or at stream crossings."
The company elaborated that the Himalayan is powered by a new and evolved overhead camshaft engine platform that forms the base for its new long stroke LS 410 engine.
In addition, the bike sports a 15 litre fuel tank which provides a range of approximately 450 kilometres.
The company added that the new motorcycle will be on display in select Royal Enfield stores in the Delhi and the NCR (national capital region) region from February 3.
"Customers can book and test ride the Himalayan across the country from March 17, 2016," the statement added.
